"We searched the internet high
and low to find the right product to allow our
clients who require remote access to their documents
from roaming sites where a VPN connection directly
into their server is not be available. WebFileExplorer
was the product I put forward as the potential
solution. Some of my colleagues were apprehensive
at buying such a product, which is programmed
in another country and not by a large, international
software company. They had concerns that if
we encountered any problems, getting support
would be a big issue and we could end up having
to go to another software company based locally
and pay in order to get problems resolved.
The functionality in the current release version
of the software, although substantial, did not
quite meet our requirements, as we needed log
files of user's activities to be kept in order
to record username/password hacking attempts
and also be able to monitor which users were
downloading which files. This added functionality
was the deciding factor, as it was an essential
feature for most of our clients. I telephoned
WebFileExplorer who said they were more than
happy to add this extra functionality. This
became the deciding factor, and decided we would
give the software a try.
The new release version of the software, with
the extra features, was ready for us to download
within a week. We were fully prepared to encounter
some problems with the new release version,
as we are with any new releases of software,
and even more so considering the turnaround
time in which the new features had been added.
We installed the software in a test area on
one of our own servers, and through some strenuous
testing did manage to find two slight errors.
As soon as I reported these errors on that Friday
afternoon, WebFileExplorer were on to fixing
them right away. We were in constant communication
using instant messenger to identify where and
why the errors were occurring, and by Monday
morning I arrived into work to find a patch
waiting to be downloaded and installed to fix
the problems. We are just making a few aesthetical
changes to the interface before deploying to
our first client's project next week. With the
level of service we have received from the WebFileExplorer
team, there is no doubt that we shall be installing
this software in all upcoming projects where
our client's require roaming access to files.
